Good Day Sacramento at Beverly's Yards of Fabric!

On Tuesday, November 22nd, Courtney Dempsey from Good Day Sacramento, a popular morning show in the greater Sacramento area, brought the program's Designer Challenge to our own Beverly's Yards of Fabric Sacramento in Carmichael!

Two designers, Uniquka Johnson of UJ Fashions, and Latiya Abdullah of Tailand Designs, arrived bright and early along with the Channel 31 TV crew. They each received a mystery bag of fabric to work with and two hours to create an original garment.  Each designer was given a five minute shopping spree to gather notions and additional materials to use in their design. But of course, there was a twist! At the end of the five minutes, the designers received another mystery bag with instructions that the contents had to be included in their finished garment. Inside the bag? Burlap and a brightly colored feather boa!

Beverly's Yards of Fabric Sacramento provided all of the materials, workspace, sewing machines, ironing space and dress forms for the designers to use. Good Day Sacramento checked in three times during their show. The first segment followed the designers on their shopping spree, the second segment included designer interviews, and in the third segment the winner was chosen.

The judges of the Challenge were Beverly's own Bridget Young, and Lisa Kennedy Watrous, a Sacramento blogger from the site Closet Candy. Since the judges were split on their final decision, the news anchors back in the studio had the final vote. The winner? Uniquka from UJ Fashions and her adorable short dress.

Beverly's Supports Our Troops this Holiday

Today is Veteran's Day, and we'd first like to thank all the American veterans who have served our country so bravely in the past!

What better day than today to update you all on the results of Operation Christmas Card in our Beverly's stores? Last Saturday, customers took time out of their shopping visits to make cards for the military men and women currently serving in the Armed Forces. Customers of all ages, men, women, and children, came together, and with supplies provided by Beverly's, created over 1,300 cards for our troops!

The cards included heartfelt messages for the troops safety, thanks for their service and wishes for a happy holiday season so far from home.

This morning we counted the cards and boxed them up for delivery to the headquarters of Operation Christmas Card. From there, the members of that organization will insure that the cards will reach our troops in time for the holiday.

Beverly's would like to thank EK Success for giving us the opportunity to take part in this worthwhile service project, the customers who put their talents to good use creating the cards, and all the service men and women who serve our country so bravely.

We've donated a sewing gift basket with some fun merchandise to The Shelly Foundation to help their cause. If you are not familiar with the organization, their stated mission is "To further the awareness and understanding of Ependymoma Tumors by encouraging ongoing research toward causes and cures, through grants to student researchers following an application process and board approval."

PolyHouse project

Tim Sleeper, son of Bob and Mary Sleeper of the Beverly's family helps Cal Poly engineering professor Roya Javadpour and her project management class with their annual home renovation service project in San Miguel. More than 40 students in the PolyHouse project are renovating the home of a disabled 16-year-old girl and her aging grandparents.

According to Javadpour, the teen was born with a heart defect and uses a wheelchair. She became severely and permanently disabled after falling into a coma. Her primary caregivers are her grandparents, who have parented more than 20 foster children. The home needs basic upgrades, such as fixing the heating system, and repairs to make a bathroom accessible.

Collecting Quilts for Bev's Angel Project

Beverly's 10th Annual Quilt Show!

April 17th - April 20th

Located at 6456 Fair Oaks Blvd. Charmichael

We will be collecting quilts, blankies and new toys for Bev's Angel Project. These will go to children in need, hospitals and shelters.
